WOW what a year 2019 has been for PSI, I hope you’ve managed to take advantage of the activities & content the community has put together! Per my last blog as well as the PSI updates, I wanted to share with you a book and quote that have stuck with me this quarter.
Let’s start first with our new PSI purpose:
"We are a community dedicated to leading and promoting the use of statistics within the healthcare industry for the benefit of patients."
Throughout 2020 in my communications, I will be anchoring to our purpose and the four strategic objectives we have set out:
- Empower members in their profession by strengthening and broadening their technical and influencing skills
- Nurture and expand a collaborative and engaged community
- Promote the value of career opportunities related to the use of statistics in healthcare
- Advance healthcare by being a leading partner in the application of statistics.
As 2019 draws to a close, I wanted to get us into the Christmas spirit. So warm up your vocals and prepare for the PSI rendition of the Twelve days of Christmas, highlighting some of the achievements from the year. Thankfully for you I’m not singing!

Book Recommendation:
The Infinite Game – Simon Sinek
If you do not have time to read the book the 37 minute youtube video does a great job to summarise the key themes and examples. I read this book just before our PSI strategy thanks to Alexander Schacht recommending it and I found it particularly helpful in making sure we focus on a long term purpose with no end (the infinite game) rather than short-term finite goals. It also helped me think about my own purpose and that of the team I lead at work. Enjoy!
