Summer Intern position for: Statistical Science Intern

Summary Description
The BioMarin internship programme will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, whilst gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. The internship programme will start on Monday 2nd June 2025 – 22nd August 2025 lasting 12 weeks in our central London Office.
Interview process will take place from 3
rd March.
The candidate will be working at the London office with the Data Science team consisting of statisticians/programmers and data managers. They will have the opportunity to be involved in the project work in order to get some hands-on experience. In addition, they will have exposure to other areas of drug development.
The candidate will have their own project to work on which will involve analysis of data and writing up a report/ slide presentation. They will be expected to present the results of the analyses to various internal groups at BioMarin.
Candidate Eligibility
Students who are currently in the last year of their undergraduate degree in Mathematics/ Statistics or students who are studying for a Masters or have completed their Masters in the past year in statistics.
Responsibilities
- Participate in ongoing statistical tasks with goal to have an introduction to the work required of a statistician working in pharmaceutical industry. This would involve producing statistical outputs and documents / reviewing statistical outputs and documents.
- Attend teleconference calls with colleagues in both EU and North America (West Coast).
- Completing a report on an agreed upon statistical topic relative to the clinical development at BioMarin. Presentation of results to BioMarin Data Science group.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills with either experience using SAS or R but with capacity to come up to speed using SAS for the project work
- Presence at the Biomarin London office Monday to Friday reporting to the Biomarin Data Science Lead for the project assigned.
- Student must be comfortable to work both with the team and for other tasks in a more autonomous fashion
- Good communication/presentation skills in English (spoken and written).
- Capable of doing a thorough bibliographical review on the chosen topic to be summarized in the report.
Experience
- Using the standard IT packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
- A strong statistical background particularly in the area of inferential statistics
- Some understanding of clinical development in the pharmaceutical industry
- Applied statistical experience through university projects.
